CALL for AVAILABILITY!
Currently, Happy Glaze Ceramics does not pour or make any earthenware pottery "ceramics", yet. However, we do recommend you supporting locally & visiting locally ceramic shops*, like Pleasant View Ceramics, in Yorkanna, PA; or other local potters. You can purchase your ceramic piece(s) there. We support and buy LOCALLY!!
There you'll find a wide selection of greenware to choose from and at very affordable prices. They do carry some bisque, but at double the price. They have pumpkins, dishes, trees, ornaments, bunnies, Indian folk-art, glazes, supplies and a whole lot more. Keep the box they give you, so you can take your finished piece home safely after class.
See the photo gallery below of 1/4 of what's in their shop!
*Not all ceramics are the same. Some craft stores import from China, and we're not sure how they'll react in our kiln.
We do have brushes, markers, glazes, paints, cleaning tools, and various other supplies, however, most people like to keep their own caddy with brushes, tools and supplies. And you're welcome to keep them in our studio or tote them home.
We recommend bringing an apron or wear old clothes. Some glazes and paints do get messy.
We have a large selection of glazes and are continuously adding more. We really like Mayco & Duncan brand glazes. Check with us before buying any glazes from anywhere else.
We do have some bisque items, if you finish your cleaning and have an urge to GLAZE. Now we're talking!
We’ll teach you how to clean and sometimes repair greenware. Trimming the seams and cleaning blemishes of clay using various pottery tools, sponges and techniques. Preparing the piece to be bisque fired to Cone 04 (1940-1975°F). This then allows the ceramic to receive paint or glaze. See FAQs for more info.
We'll show you glazing techniques from "slapping" or slathering it on, to very detailed work. Applying glaze is different than applying paint. And we NEVER judge a glaze by it's bottle color. We have books and charts for that.
Some of our students have used the bubble-method, some have used underglaze decal transfers. They've learned how to do an Ombré effect and experiment with different Jungle-Gems; or various application techniques.
This is something we thought we might try. We’ve got our very own kiln! And rather it just sit idle between classes, why not offer something more to the community and pottery friends.
🔥 That means we can bisque and glaze fire your creations right here in-house. Kiln firings are included with our classes—so you get to take home a finished piece you’ll love. (Heads up: extra-large pieces that hog kiln space may have a small additional fee.)
